Whether you seek to enhance overall health or manage chronic conditions more effectively, we develop highly personalized, comprehensive treatment plans that address all facets of your well-being.
Conventional medicine often focuses on isolated symptoms and treats them individually. In contrast, functional medicine takes a more investigative approach, looking beyond surface symptoms to understand the broader context of a patient's health and treat the underlying causes of illness rather than isolated symptoms.
At Zook Medical, our focus is on patient-centered care, blending conventional practices with our specialized knowledge in functional medicine. Our approach highlights thoughtful, holistic care that recognizes the interconnected nature of mind, body, and spirit.
Functional medicine is a patient-centered approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease. It aims to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms, by considering the complex interactions between genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that influence health and disease.
This approach integrates traditional Western medical practices with what is sometimes considered "alternative" or "integrative" medicine. This involves looking at the patient's unique biochemical makeup and creating personalized treatment plans that might include a combination of drugs, nutritional plans, and lifestyle changes.

First of all, thank you for seeking me out! The hardest part of leaving a practice is losing touch with patients that I've come to care about deeply. I am honored that you have sought me out, and it would be a privilege to work with you again here at Zook Medical.
If you're a patient that I have seen within the last year then we will likely be able to hold a 60-minute follow-up visit instead of my usual 75-minute initial. Please request the 60-minute follow-up when you schedule, and unless there is a pressing reason that I do not think it is appropriate, I will authorize it.
Additionally, to make the most of our shorter visit time, please download any recent labs and progress notes from our previous encounters, and then upload them to the Zook Medical/Charm portal.
Since we prioritize what you need above what 3rd parties are willing to pay for, we are a cash-based practice. We do not participate with any insurance plans, including Medicare or Medicaid.
With private or commercial insurance plans, patients may receive out-of-network reimbursement for our services if they submit their superbill/invoice to their insurer. However, since Dr. Zook is not enrolled in government plans; plans such as Medicare and Medicaid cannot be submitted for reimbursement.
Ultimately, since each plan is unique to the patient, we cannot guarantee reimbursement from any insurance plan.
Sometimes insurance can be billed for certain labs and other tests. Specialty tests are often not covered.
Yes. As a physician, Dr. Zook's services should qualify you to be reimbursed with your FSA or HSA funds. Supplements and testing can sometimes qualify as well. If your program requires a letter of medical necessity, we will be happy to supply that for you.
Dr. Zook is a trained internal medicine physician who sees all adults aged 18 and older.
Zook Medical is currently a Telemedicine-only practice, so all patients must have access to a computer, tablet, smart phone or other electronic device that allows video calls.
As a functionally trained doctor, Dr. Zook has helped many patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue, thyroid disorders, autoimmune issues, irritable bowel syndrome, SIBO, and other GI problems. She helps to balance hormones, restore nutrient deficiencies, optimize detox pathways, and more.
Dr. Zook has also had years of experience treating both acute and chronic illnesses. She has worked in primary care settings, hospital settings, as well as in urgent care. These experiences have provided a broad knowledge base for her to use as she cares for her patients. Even if she is not equipped to address an issue herself, Dr. Zook can guide her patients to where they can best receive the care they need.
Yes, of course! I'm happy to incorporate data that you have already collected into your treatment plan.
Please keep in mind, however, that many labs and specialty tests are not pertinent if they are more than a year old or if changes/treatments have occurred since the time the tests were done.
Another note to keep in mind is that initial visits are not intended for extensive test review/interpretation. Although there may be time for reviewing some results, first visits are a critical opportunity for Dr. Zook to get to know you and to do a proper intake & interview. A proper interpretation and treatment plan can only be achieved after having taken the time to thoroughly understand your story. The results make much more sense in the context of your health history and timeline.
Zook Medical does not function as a primary care practice. Rather, we operate as a specialized clinic complementing your primary care provider (PCP). Dr. Zook recommends that all her patients maintain a primary care provider to oversee essential services such as annual wellness exams, physicals, immunizations, screening exams, and procedures.
Please click on the Appointments link to schedule through CharmHealth.
Existing patients can send a message through the secure patient portal. If you are not a patient, please use the Contact form on this website.
Messaging is a great way to communicate with Dr. Zook for relatively simple questions or clarifications. It is not the proper place to address new or complicated issues. If Dr. Zook thinks that you would be better served holding an appointment, she may encourage you to schedule a visit.
We do not prescribe controlled medications at Zook Medical.
Please provide at least 24 hour notice for any cancelations/reschedules. Cancelations within 24 hours will be charged a $50 fee.
If you are an existing patient, please click on this Portal link and use your login credentials to access your record.
Not at the current time. Appointments are only available via virtual/telemedicine visits.
We strive to reply to messages within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. In case of a medical emergency, please dial 911 or contact your primary care provider.
Individual outcomes vary. While some experience significant improvement within the initial months, others may require a year or longer of commitment to alleviate chronic symptoms. It's important to recognize that your body didn't undergo changes overnight; years of stress and illness accumulate and necessitate time for recovery. As a general guideline, it often takes approximately one month of healing for each year that a specific issue has persisted.
Testing plays a crucial role in functional medicine. We provide a wide range of advanced diagnostic tests, such as:
Blood tests (chemistry profile, blood counts, inflammatory markers, thyroid hormones, female and male hormones, vitamin and mineral levels, food allergies, etc.)
Microbiome and gastrointestinal tests
Urine and salivary hormone tests
Food sensitivity testing
Genetic testing
...and more.
Each test is tailored to the individual, ensuring a comprehensive and personalized approach. The objective of functional medicine testing is to gain a thorough understanding of your health and identify the underlying causes of your medical issues.
